Panaji Coastal Security Police arrested Gagan Deep N, a 32-year-old from Chikballapur, Karnataka, after he escaped custody and hid in Goa. The Bengaluru-based suspect had defrauded a charitable trust of ₹6.30 crore by impersonating a multinational company official. This rapid operation underscores the challenges of securing high-value fugitives across state lines during financial recovery efforts.

Fraud Scheme and Daring Casino Escape

Bengaluru City Police arrested Gagan Deep N on March 31, 2026, for cheating the trust through false pretenses. Authorities transported him to Goa on April 3 to retrieve funds he allegedly squandered at a casino. That night, amid the crowded premises on April 4, he shoved escorting officers and fled, exploiting the chaos.

Swift Manhunt Spans Surveillance and Intelligence

Following a complaint from Police Inspector Rakesh C. of Devanahalli Police Station, Panaji Coastal Security Police filed an FIR under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita provisions. Teams deployed technical surveillance and human intelligence to track him to Dodamarg. Officers located him at an eco-farm hideout and took him into custody without resistance.

Inter-State Handover and Policing Coordination

Police Inspector Sajith Pillai led the effort, supported by ASI Carlos Pontes, HC Suryakant Bordekar, PC Laxman Kauthankar, and PC Rajesh Mardolkar, under SP Roy Pereira and SP Coastal Security Rajesh Kumar. The suspect now faces handover to Bengaluru Police for deeper investigation. Such cases highlight the need for robust protocols in tourist-heavy zones like Goa, where casinos attract illicit gains from distant crimes.
